TemptShield Terms of Use

These terms cover your use of the TemptShield Android app.

The app

TemptShield is provided as-is, free of charge, for adding friction to apps on your own device. It has no paid tier, no subscription, no advertising and no account.

What TemptShield does, and does not, do

• It shows a pause with a countdown over apps you flag. "Open anyway" always becomes available once the countdown ends: TemptShield delays access, it does not block it, and it is not designed to be tamper-proof against its own user.
• It does not filter or block any content itself. If you use the optional content-filtering guidance, the filtering is performed by Android's own Private DNS setting and the DNS resolver you choose (Cloudflare Family is suggested). TemptShield only reads whether that setting is active and tells you when it is not.
• It is not a parental control, monitoring or accountability product. It sends no reports to anyone, because it has no way to send anything anywhere.
• It requires two special Android permissions — usage access and display over other apps — and does nothing at all without them.

If compulsive use of pornography or of your phone is affecting your health, work, finances or relationships, please seek help from a qualified professional. Nothing on this website or in the app is a substitute for that.

Your data

TemptShield stores your flagged apps, statistics and settings in local storage on your device and transmits nothing. See the privacy policy for detail.

Availability

TemptShield is an Android app distributed through Google Play. Features depending on the operating system — foreground-app detection, the overlay, notifications, the Private DNS status reading — behave according to the permissions you grant and to what your Android version and device manufacturer allow. Aggressive battery optimisation on some devices can stop background services, including this one.

Liability

TemptShield is provided without warranty of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from the app failing to show a pause, from content that reaches you despite a filter you have configured, or from decisions you make while using it.
